A Beautiful Disaster with Zorg

Saturday Feb 22nd 7:30 - 9:30pm, Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists
1924 Cedar Street, Berkeley, CA

A night of musical alchemy

Zorg will sing songs of happy and disastrous loves, and then we will sink into a Shakti Gong sound journey.

The Songs:   In honor of the month of Valentine's, Zorg will take us on a journey through many different worlds of love. The mood of the acoustic guitar songs ranges from high-energy romping to quiet reflection. Audience participation in singing along is very much encouraged, and we will sing both original songs and old favorites like "Hey Jude" and "With A Little Help From My Friends".

We take our inspiration from the Bardo Journey of the soul after death, as described in the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The soul revisits the various Heavens and Hells that it has experienced in its past life, and its work is to see them all with the light and love of the Bodhisattva. We will end the song cycle with the songs of joyous re-integration and preparation for new life and love.

Here's an example of a simple sing-along song which is like a NadaYoga mantra, that feels good to sing with others!

The "Beautiful Disaster" video above illustrates one of the love themes for the evening; looking with compassion upon people whom we cannot change. Here are two more short clips.

"I Thank God For The Day" is about an ending that turns out to be a new beginning.

"Remembering" is a grateful reflection on past love.

"There" is about the the joy of discovering a new love that feels like a recognition of the old...

The Shakti Gong sound journey:   After reflecting on the joys and sorrows of past loves, we will sink deep into a Shakti Gong sound journey, celebrating the love that remains with us, and letting go of all that no longer serves us.
No recording technology can do justice to the incredible dynamic range of the 36" Wu Xing Gong. But here is a recording of a 24-minute journey that gives some idea of the huge sonic potential of this instrument. It is recommended to listen while lying down in a darkened room with eyes closed, and good quality headphones! Listening to the Shakti energy is all about tension and release. Sometimes the tension is very powerful, but then the release is sublime!
